Margaritas!

The first time I had a margarita I was at in Huntington Beach. Ohh.. this place is good. This is a great place to meet up with friends, come for a great meal with family, or even enjoy the drinks while watching the ball game. We love to go there. My family and I like to go especialy during the winter months. Your guaranteed not to wait for a table. So, at Freds I got the Margaritaville Gold Rita. Its probably the only one I've had that I can say will truely knock me on my ass. If anyone is interested, Freds is located at PCH and Main Street.

So began my love affair with lime and salt in a wonderful concoction called the Margarita. Interestingly enough, Margarita is latin for pearl... who says diamonds are a girls best friend? Now here are some interesting things about who may have created the Margarita.

Danny Negrete, 1936
According to Salvador Negrete, the son of Daniel Negrete, the family story goes that Daniel opened a bar at the Garci Crispo hotel with his brother, David. The day before David's marriage, Daniel presented the margarita as a wedding present to margarita, his sister-in-law.
It was a combination of one-third Triple Sec, one-third tequila and one-third squeezed Mexican lime juice. The drink was not blended and was served with hand-crushed ice.

Francisco 'Pancho' Morales, 4th of July, 1942
In Texas, a bartender, Pancho Morales invented the margarita on July 4, 1942, at a Juárez bar named Tommy's Place. Supposedly, a woman requested a Magnolia (brandy, Cointreau, and an egg yolk topped with Champagne). Morales was a little fuzzy on the recipe; he improvised and his ersatz creation was a big hit.

Carlos ”Danny” Herrera, 1947–48
Carlos "Danny" Herrera mixed a jigger of white tequila with lemon juice and Triple Sec, creating a smooth and salty concoction he named "margarita", in October/November of 1947/1948
The bar was Rancho La Gloria, midway on the old road that connected Tijuana with Rosarito Beach. A showgirl and sometime actress who called herself Marjorie King was one of the customers, who was allergic to hard liquor, except for tequila, but she didn't like to drink it straight or even with a lemon and salt. Mr. Herrera started experimenting and came up with a concoction that was three parts white tequila, two parts Cointreau and one part fresh lemon juice. He added shaved ice and blended the mixture with a hand shaker.

Margaret Sames, December 1948
Sames, who created the drink at her Acapulco bar, gave the reason of being "close with a lot of famous hotel and restaurant people" in introducing the margarita. Sames used one part Cointreau, three parts tequila and one part lime juice for her margarita. Knowing that most people drank tequila preceded by a lick of salt, she chose to garnish her cocktail with a rim of coarse salt.

If you are a fellow crafter who is reading this, I have one word of advice. Well, more than one word. Anyways.. dont drink and craft..dont drink and knit. As I have found out many times because I have forgotten, when you drink a wonderful margarita and are knitting, tomorrow when you go to work on it, you may need to frog the whole damn thing. So lets hope you dont abuse that wonderful French Angora yarn you bought from the 1960's, but havent been brave enough to do anything with.

Creative Items

So, just to show
off my creative talents, I wanted to show everyone my BooBoo Bunnies! I love to make these and they are so cute! They are perfect for those who constantly have booboo's that need attention!

I began making these guys when I was in Elementary school. They are a ton of fun, and great for baby showers, sports lovers, and birthday's.

So, what is married life like so far? Well, have you ever seen "Everybody Loves Raymond? Yes, these are my inlaws. Frank and Marie.. Like Debra (my new nickname given by myself), my inlaws live accross the street from us. Different though is that they did not "find" the house we are living in. They own it. So there are always interesting things going on. Marie is my MIL to the tee. Or, the other way around. Anyways, my life is Raymond and its different. Not exactly what I had expectd but oh well.

So, I have now taught myself a new skill. I have taught myself how to knit using double pointed needles. I have been knitting for over 21 years, and this is exciting. I am now making a hat, using "Purple Haze" and "Lilac". I originally wanted to make fingerless gloves, but thought it better to master the dpns before I use the "good" yarn. It is a neat little hat.

So the Haze is the darker orange color and the Lilac is the lighter orange. I am trying my best not to screw it up. It is very cool! I hope to get a pictrue of it soon! I did change part of the directions. It says to cast on 15 sts and knit 79 rows. You then sew it end to end and pick up sts to start the hat portion. I didnt like this so, I decided that I would just K1P1 for 10 rows and then start on the hat. Its cute so far!

Wedding Stuff

When I decided to find my wedding gown I went to Jinny's Bridal in Huntington Beach, California. They were so helpful, and my consultant knew everything that I needed to know. I ended up getting Maggie Sottero's Trina. Pictured above is Martina. Trina is the same thing, but without the beads.

Introduction

Hi Everyone!
I just started this blog to be a place to put the everyday things that go on in my life. I work at a local bridal shop. It can be lots of fun, and yes we do get Bridezilla's. On a good day its a blast. On a bad day, well.., Im glad Im not the owner. I married my best friend of six years on April 4th of this year. Its just a blast. We got married in Las Vegas at the Bellagio (civil) and then again at the Hartland Mansion (for those whom we chose not to tell about the first one). We had just a great time. We spent the whole week with my family who came from Indy (Go Colts!) and Florida. We have plans to go back in June for a vacation. We hope the whole family can come. I love to knit. I have completed several things, but most of my stuff is in production. The book Yarn Harlot is pretty much right up my alley. We live in a 600 sq. ft. house, so the amount of yarn that I can posess at once is at a limit. I also make and sell BooBoo Bunnies. These are cute little bunnies that children can put over their booboo to make it/them feel better. Its pretty cute. (http://www.freewebs.com/booboobunnyheaven/) I hope to blog fairly often. I do go to school. I am going for my masters in Education. Its a lot of fun! Well I hope to make new friends via blogging and reading others blogs!
